The Sun Devils will lose two major impact players up front from the Pac-12’s No. 2 scoring defense, as first-team All-Pac-12 defensive end Tyler Johnson and multiple-year starting defensive tackle DJ Davidson will both enter the NFL Draft.
Shannon Forman, who started at 3-technique defensive tackle this season, and backup defensive tackle Corey Stephens will also both move on from the team. Accordingly, although the team will return All-Pac-12 junior defensive tackle Jermayne Lole, who missed the 2021 season with a triceps tear, Rodriguez said ASU’s interior personnel is currently the point of emphasis.
ASU’s first step in that effort was to sign three-star defensive tackle prospect Robby Harrison, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound product out of Greenwood, South Carolina, whom Rodriguez spoke highly of.
Elsewhere on the interior, Rodriguez said he hopes to see junior TJ Pesefea, ASU’s backup nose tackle this season, ascend in a similar fashion to Davidson. He also praised the performance in recent practices of freshman defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, a former four-star prospect who notched 22 tackles and two sacks this year. ASU also returns Green, who plays primarily on the interior and managed three sacks in limited snaps.
