Chris Rumph II wasn’t even a starter on last year’s defensive line, but he’s earning praise as a preseason All-American heading in to his Redshirt Junior Season. The success of Rumph is just one example of the amazing turnaround put in place by co-Defensive Coordinator Ben Albert of Duke’s Defensive Line, once a position group that the program struggled to fill on the recruiting trail.
This Fall will see four cornerstones of Albert’s first class of incoming freshmen, Rumph, Victor Dimukeje, Drew Jordan and Derrick Tangelo, graduate as true seniors. All four guys were members of the Class of 2017, with only Rumph redshirting his first year on the college level. The other three played double digit games, benefitting from Albert’s tutelage and his insistence on reaching deep in to his depth chart to get guys snaps on the second and third teams.
