A weekend in Gainesville was all Isaiah Nixon needed to realize that he wanted to be a Gator. The four-star pass rusher out of Saint Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood announced a verbal commitment to Florida on Tuesday two days after backing off an early pledge to UCF.
Nixon, who the industry-generated 247Sports Composite pegs as the nation’s No. 26 EDGE, originally committed to the Knights back in April. At the time, the commitment caught some off guard as Nixon had made it seem like he wanted to play somewhere in the SEC. Thankfully for the Gators, assistant Mike Peterson never gave up in the recruitment.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Nixon is coming off a junior campaign in which he racked up 75 tackles and 11 sacks. While there was a time when he was billing himself as a tight end, he seems to be fully embracing the idea of attacking quarterbacks on Saturdays after sitting down with Peterson and watching some film.
