The Hawkeyes will have to find a way to replace all-American defensive end A.J. Epenesa, an underrated safety in Geno Stone and more. Iowa should have a solid defensive line, especially after Iowa landed defensive tackle Jack Heflin as a graduate transfer through the transfer portal.

As a junior at Northern Illinois, Heflin recorded 29 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, and three sacks in 9 games for the Huskies. Heflin was named Northern Illinois’ defensive player of the year and was an honorable mention All-American by Pro Football Focus.

Another guy that could make some noise is defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon. The big-bodied versatile lineman should pair nicely along with Heflin in the middle and help create opportunities for guys like Chauncey Golston, John Waggoner, Joe Evans and others contending for playing time.
