Maryland football has locked in the commitment of one of its top recruits in its 2021 class, with four-star defensive tackle Tommy Akingbesote officially signing with the program Wednesday

Akingbesote made his initial commitment to the Terps earlier this year on May 27. His decision ultimately came down to Maryland, Buffalo, Boston College, East Carolina and Kent State.

The 6-foot-4, 270 lb. defensive tackle, who is from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and attends Charles Herbert Flowers High School, is one of nine in-state members in the 2021 class so far.

Akingbesote has a 0.9064 grade per the 24/7 Sports Composite, checking in as the No. 10 player at his position and No. 136 player overall in his class. He thrives as an athletic pass-rusher with strong arms that can get off the line of scrimmage and create separation quickly. His versatility also allows him to line up on the edge in certain sets and play as a defensive end.
