Argyle four-star defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel announced on Twitter on Monday that he has committed to Nebraska.

Van Poppel, who also played tight end, is the son of former Rangers pitcher Todd Van Poppel. The elder Van Poppel was a first-round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics out of Arlington Martin in 1990 and played 11 seasons in the major leagues.

Riley Van Poppel is rated the 60th-best recruit in Texas in the Class of 2023. He had 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks last season for an 11-2 Argyle team that reached the third round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs.

He lists 23 offers on his recruiting page, including Michigan, Arkansas, Florida State, SMU, TCU and Texas Tech.
