Oregon football is planning to play sometime this school year, but when the Ducks do return they will be without Penei Sewell.

The Outland Trophy winner has officially opted out.

Oregon’s talented junior left tackle and the top offensive lineman in college football announced on Monday that he will not return for the 2021 season — whenever that is — and instead will begin preparations for spring’s NFL draft.

“Long after I’m retired, I’ll be telling my kids I played with that guy,” former Oregon left guard Shane Lemieux, who was drafted by the New York Giants, said of Sewell last season. “The best player in the country is who the (Heisman) is given out to, and this year he was the best player in the country, in my opinion.”
