For the second straight day, Rutgers landed some help from the transfer portal.
Offensive lineman JD DiRenzo, a graduate transfer from Sacred Heart, announced on Twitter Saturday night that he had committed to Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound DiRenzo, a Hammonton native, immediately gives Rutgers’ O-line Big Ten-caliber size and plenty of experience.
DiRenzo, who will be enrolling at Rutgers for the start of the spring semester, had plenty of options.
Since entering the transfer portal, DiRenzo has received a flurry of offers from Power 5 programs, including Purdue, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Virginia and Oklahoma in addition to Rutgers.
Ultimately, DiRenzo, an All-American at Sacred Heart, decided to return to New Jersey. He played high school football at St. Joseph Academy in Hammonton.
