A third member of the Texas program has made the decision to opt-out of the 2020 college football season due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Offensive lineman Willie Tyler announced Wednesday that he’s joining running back Daniel Young and defensive lineman Marqez Bimage by deciding to not play during the coming season.
Head coach Tom Herman recently included Tyler in a group of six Longhorn linemen competing for two open spots on the right side of the offensive line to round out the starting group alongside preseason All-American left tackle Samuel Cosmi, left guard Junior Angilau and center Derek Kerstetter. In an effort to find the best mix of starters and to manufacture depth, Herman said Tyler had been working at both guard and tackle in the team’s first seven practices leading up to last Saturday’s camp scrimmage.
