Entering North Carolina’s first two games, the offensive line was a clear area of concern for head coach Mack Brown. It didn’t have the depth he wanted and one more injury could derail a group that is essential for UNC’s high-powered offense to click on all cylinders. After average performances against Syracuse and Boston College (UNC was sacked six total times, gave up 13 tackle-for-loss, and rushed for 168 yards per game), the offensive line put together its best game of the season in a 56-45 shootout win over Virginia Tech. The line gave up only one sack and helped pave the way for 399 total rushing yards.

“The fact that these guys have been with Coach (Stacey Searels) for a year, the fact that they’ve been with Coach (Phil) Longo for a year. They know what to do. And they know the calls to make and they know how to fix things,” Brown said.
