USC received a commitment from three-star Liberty High School (Bakersfield, Calif.) defensive lineman Grant Buckey on Wednesday. Buckey took an official visit to USC last weekend and becomes the first defensive line commit in the Trojans’ nine-member 2023 recruiting class, which ranked 15th nationally prior to Buckey’s commitment, according to 247Sports Composite ratings.
The defensive line is arguably the weakest position group on USC’s roster, and this is Riley’s first full recruiting cycle to start rebuilding the defensive trenches. Buckey’s commitment won’t shake up recruiting rankings, as he’s only a three-star prospect, but he’s been a target for this staff for some time now. He possesses good size at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds.
