When he came to Virginia last year, Jowon Briggs was considered the future anchor of the Cavaliers’ defensive line. Less than two seasons later, he’s decided to move on.
Briggs, a 6-foot-1, 310-pound sophomore nose tackle from Cincinnati, Ohio, has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, a U.Va. athletic department spokesperson confirmed. In seven starts this season, Briggs had 20 tackles, including three sacks, which was second on the team.
Briggs was the highest-rated recruit to sign with U.Va. since Bronco Mendenhall took over as the program’s coach in 2016. Briggs was also the third highest-rated defensive lineman and the 15th highest-rated overall recruit to sign with U.Va. since the start of the century, according to 247sports.com.
