With the announcement that starting left tackle Luke Tenuta would forego the remainder of his collegiate eligibility to enter the 2022 NFL Draft, Virginia Tech’s offensive line rebuild took another hit.
Currently, Virginia Tech is expected to lose starting left guard Lecitus Smith, starting center Brock Hoffman, and Tenuta to the NFL Draft. Johnny Jordan, a transfer from Maryland that started three games for Virginia Tech this fall, will exhaust his eligibility, as will Tyrell Smith, who has provided valuable backup reps in his final season.
Silas Dzansi, who has starting experience at both guard and tackle, has yet to announce his 2022 plans at this point in time, though he did participate in Virginia Tech’s Senior Day announcement during the regular season.
Of the returning offensive linemen, assuming Dzansi heads to the NFL Draft, Virginia Tech has just two offensive lineman that have recorded a start inParker Clements and Kaden Moore, so it is imperative that Brent Pry and his staff work the transfer portal to bring in multiple offensive linemen that can provide experience heading into the 2022 season or the Hokies offense could be in for a rough season.
